Hi! I’m the New Baby
Hi! I’m the New Baby
I really like it when people hold me. I feel safe and warm in their arms. Sometimes you can hold me, too. I would like that. Just remember my neck is not very strong yet. You’ll have to support my head for me. Do you like to be hugged?
Hi! I’m the New Baby is written from the perspective of a newborn baby who is speaking to his older brother about what life is going to be like when he comes home. He explains the differences between them, like what food they eat and what times they sleep.
This would be a great book for parents who will be bringing a new baby into the family to help prepare any older children for the baby’s arrival. It begins with the baby introducing himself and asking for his older brother’s name. He goes on to explain that they’re going to live in the same house. He also explains that, while his older brother gets to eat things like sandwiches and apples, he only drinks milk because he doesn’t have teeth to eat food yet. He continues on throughout the story to talk about sleeping, playing, laughing and all the things that they can do together. He also says that babies are a lot of work and that maybe his brother can help because big kids can be big helpers.
The illustrations in Hi! I’m the New Baby are quite colourful and would engage young children. They appear to be watercolours and are very bright. The illustrations depict all of the activities that are talked about in the story, such as playing with toys, laughing, crying, sleeping and singing.
