Volume 10 Number 4. 1982 November. The Basement Book is an instruction manual of the type that delights the home handy person. Here, in one volume, are basic instructions on all aspects of basement finishing, from waterproofing, through all phases of building and wiring, right up to bars and fireplaces. It gives enough information to complete any project, and the user need not be very experienced. The book is well illustrated with photographs and sketches that complement all of its step-by-step procedures. The topics covered are: dry-proofing, insulation, heating, basic tools, concrete fasteners, strapping, framing (wood and steel), wiring, panelling, ceilings, stairways, doors, floors, soundproofing, trim work, bars and built-ins, and fireplaces. Weak points of the book are its insulation chapter—not up to today's thinking—and the eight colour photographs on basement layout, which are excellent but are too few in number.
