Boundary Hunters is a scholarly, precise account of a controversial issue between Canada and the United States, the Alaska Boundary. Lewis Green, the author, who is a consulting geologist in British Columbia, has dealt adequately with the political issues from 1825 to the present, which include Canadian "loss of face." His main emphasis is on the incredible hardships endured by the conscientious surveyors. Because of the author's style and wide use of first-hand accounts of the men in the field, this book is a good history and a good story. There are many excellent maps and photographs, an extensive bibliography, and an index to help fulfil this book's function for historians and geographers. Wilderness buffs will also be intrigued with the "exceedingly laborious" trials of the men in this rigorous country, and the pitiable plight of the horses. Recommended. Gerri Young, Fort Nelson, BC.
