LET'S DANCE: A MOVEMENT APPROACH TO FOLK DANCE
Jane Evans.
Volume 10 Number 4.
Let's Dance assembles in a tidy format all of those little bits and pieces of dance instruction teachers assemble during the folk dance units each year. Accompanying descriptions of nearly seventy-five different dances is Dr. Evans's detailed rationale for her "movement approach" to the activity. She places much importance on how well children can move in relation to their own body, the bodies of the others in the group, and in space. Her lesson plans and dance instructions reflect the focus she outlines in her introduction. As a catalogue of dances and instructions, this is a useful book. As a starting point for an intensive program, it offers a good deal of background material appropriate to all levels. A bibliography is included, and the lessons are very easy to follow. The index at the front of the book is alphabetically arranged, not in order of difficulty. There is a chart that indicates appropriate levels for teaching the various dances. It is well-designed and comprehensive.
