ON THE HOMEFRONT: A SCRAPBOOK OF CANADIAN WORLD WAR II MEMORABILIA
Syd Charendoff and Mary Jane Lennon.
Volume 10 Number 4.
Syd Charendoff is a collector whose personal collection of collections in his private museum is recognized as one of the largest in North America. World War II memorabilia is one of his consuming interests. Mary Jane Lennon is a freelance writer and nostalgia buff. These two have brought out a fascinating and unusual book. The subtitle, A Scrapbook of Canadian World War II Memorabilia, tells it all. Posters, buttons, newspaper headlines, cartoons, ration cards, advertisements, you name it, are all tied together with an explanatory text that nicely sets the atmosphere prevailing in Canada during the period. Those of the right age can wallow in nostalgia, shed a tear mayhap, as memories come crowding back. Those too young to remember can profit by seeing it as it was: the good, the bad, the joy, and the sorrow.
