SERGEANT STANLEY
Leslie Benham and Lois Benham.
Volume 10 Number 4.
This tale of the War of 1812 tells the story of Stanley Cassidy and his friend Jeff Trump who travel from Kingston to York in the spring of 1813 and become involved with the battles. Stanley is eleven, and his father owns a general store. Jeff's father is in the militia, and he owns and drives a wagon. Stanley runs away from home and travels with Jeff and his father who are taking supplies to General Sheaffe's army. This adventure story is filled with information about life in Upper Canada in 1813 and the rather confusing battle at York. It will be useful as supplementary reading about the War of 1812. Pen-and-ink drawings by Frank J. O'Connor illustrate high points of the story.
