A tribute to love and the beloved-personalized, certainly, yet essentially uni-versal—this novel verges on a dramatic monologue. The protagonist, acutely perceptive and intensely receptive, pours out his observations, doubts, delights. Fragments of conversation with the beloved, moments of physical intimacy have a luminous quality that pervades. Details ordinary and details sensually honed balance the abstractions. This lover has his feet on the ground when he is not kicking his heels together and flying high. His field of vision extends 360 degrees. Plot structure is minimal—this is essentially a journey of introspection: of vulnerability and affirmation. It is an exploration, an examination, an exultation.
