Elaine Dickson does both the tape and the teacher's guide. From the bibliography included in the guide, I feel that it is both factual and up to date. Side 1 of the tape deals with pythons in general and discusses them in clear, non-scientific terms. Dickson talks about pythons, their special features, their food, their enemies, their methods of attack, and other interesting facts. She asks open-ended questions designed to make the students think beyond the information she is giving them.

Side 2 covers legends, myths, and religious practices that have evolved in certain parts of the world because of our fascination with snakes. Musical backgrounds help create a suitable mood for these tales.

Although the tape is full of facts about its subject, providing information is not the only purpose. When used in conjunction with the teacher's guide, it could be the basis for listening exercises, class discussion, creative writing, drama, or even art.
