THE QUEBECOIS DICTIONARY
Léandre Bergeron.
Volume 11 Number 2.
A former teacher of Quebec literature at Concordia University, Leandre Bergeron offers us a shorter version of his best-selling Dictionnaire de la langue québécoise. The format makes for easy reading and reference. In his introduction, Bergeron gives a capsule history of the Quebec language. While some readers may take exception to his rigorous views on politics and its incumbent influence on the French language, Bergeron's talent for making language a reflection of life is undeniable. The bibliography lists sixteen other references to assist the reader's bon gout de la langue québécoise! Being the author of a number of other prominent publications on the subject allows Bergeron to express his liberal views on language with impressive credibility. Apart from its price, the reader will find this volume a useful and practical handbook for getting a better appreciation of Quebec's rich culture.
