It details the people, personalities, and events from the inception of scattered private broadcasting stations in the early 1920s, through the formation of public radio broadcasting in 1932, culminating in the event that would forever change the fate of radio-the dawn of television in 1952. The attraction of this popular history is twofold: over 125 interviews with broadcasters, producers, technicians, entrepreneurs, and ordinary listeners are interwoven with over four hundred illustrations comprising photographs of personalities, advertisements, radio listings, licenses, and assorted memorabilia. This oversize paperback is divided into seven chapters: three deal with private broadcasting representing Canada geographically in the Maritimes, Quebec-Ontario, and the West; three deal with the concept of public broadcasting: the CNR Network, the Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission, and the CBC.
