SPEAKING OF CARS...
Charles Whipp.
Volume 11 Number 3.
Speaking of Cars appears to have been written by an admirer of antique automobiles who has done a considerable amount of research on the first vehicles manufactured in Canada. It includes details of the design and construction of steam, electric, and gas powered cars with emphasis on those made in southwestern Ontario. On the back cover there is a list of Canadian cars, the year each one was built and the location. Information on the inventors and the manufacturing companies is interspersed with anecdotes about the problems of driving the automobiles. The organization of the book makes it difficult to follow the development of the automobile industry. Black-and-white photographs are scattered haphazardly throughout the book. The anecdotes and the photographs do little to enliven the plodding text. It is doubtful whether even confirmed antique automobile buffs would find the book interesting. Not recommended.
