LULLABIES & LAUGHTER
Volume 11 Number 4.
This review sings the praises of Pat Carfra, the Lullaby Lady, who as a nurse sang to babies in a Montreal night nursery and now inspires parents and others to do the same. We all know that children love music, and educators, such as Barbara Cass Beggs, know that babies especially need music. What better way to start them off and to help gain our own self confidence than to sing along with Pat Carfra's tape and accompanying song book? Side A has both traditional and original lullabies and soothing sleepy songs. The rhythm and tempo are perfect for rocking a baby to sleep. Side B has fingerplay songs with suggested actions, rhymes, and play songs for toddlers. Some of the songs are accompanied by guitar; others are unaccompanied. Pat Carfra's unassuming and naturally lilting voice will encourage participation from young and old in groups but especially in a one-to-one situation where holding, singing, movement and affection go together. This cassette recording should be in all public and school library collections.
