AN AUDIO VISUAL HISTORY OF CANADIAN SPORTS
Mead Sound Film-strips, 1982.
Volume 11 Number 4.
This is a survey of the development of sporting activities in Canada from the days before European settlement to the present. It includes the contributions of the native peoples as well as the English, French, and other immigrant groups. The program is well conceived and researched and professionally executed. Good use is made of archival material, while the musical background and sound effects contribute to make the set entertaining as well as informative. A conscious effort has been made to avoid sexism and racism; the text includes references to women, blacks, native peoples, the disabled, and the elderly. This series would be an excellent resource for a unit on Canadian culture. Highly recommended. From the Evaluation Committee of the Board of Education for the City of North York. |
