Volume 11 Number 5. 1983 September. This is the first in the series, Left Readers Club, and perhaps it would be no harm if it was the last if this is typical of what is planned. Jim Endicott may have had some claim to fame, or notoriety, in his day, but I would venture to think his day is well past. Dr. Endicott had a long and varied career, being essentially a missionary in China, where he was born in 1898, for the United Church of Canada until his resignation in 1946. This resignation was caused by his support for the Chinese Communist movement. In the succeeding years he helped found such organizations as the Canadian Peace Congress and the World Congress of Peace. In 1953 he was awarded the Stalin Peace Prize in Moscow. What we have in this little book is a collection of Dr. Endicott's articles from the Canadian Far Eastern Newsletter, lectures, addresses, and sermons roughly covering the years 1947 to 1982. The context of most of this material is in tune with the history noted above. I will extract an example and leave it as my comment on the worth of this book. In a 1934 Rotary Club address these words occurred:          Behold yourselves surrounded by Empire          builders who would oppress and exploit you.          Look to Russia, and if you are a Christian          you can learn from Russia that the earth is          the Lord's and the fulness thereof. . .and          the natural wealth of it should be administered          intelligently for the benefit of all His people.          This cannot be done by the principles of empire          building... In a 1964 article, he uses this material with the comment "I would not change much today" except to add an anti-American comment. This is the Russia of Stalin. Enough said! John Harkness, Emery, C.
