Volume 12 Number 2 1984 March If you have ever wondered what it is like to be a practising crown attorney, then you will find this book descriptive of the variety of the job. After the war, Murray Peden returned to complete his education and in doing this he won the gold medal in both arts and law. He then accepted a position with the government as a crown attorney, which had him travelling throughout a rural region of Manitoba enforcing the various federal and provincial statutes. He recounts a wide variety of cases in which he was involved. These cases ran the gamut from making boot-leg liquor (which seems to have been a particularly popular occupation) to various murder charges. The author fills his text with details of names, places, and various characters involved in the cases. In particular, the episode involving the con men of the day is entertaining. Since the author is chronicling his experiences, no cases are gone into in any great detail, nor, is there any overall point to be illustrated from his collection of stories. The book can be read as a collection of short stories and is suitable for light quick reading. Fall of an Arrow* and A Thousand Shall Fall** are two other books by the same author. *Reviewed vol.
