This anthology contains selections by the author from his writings between 1937 and 1982. Arranged in chronological order, they include several articles previously published in Macleans, Chatelaine, and Canadian Home Journal, stories, and excerpts from longer works like Why Shoot the Teacher? and The Night We Stole the Mountie's Car, which won the Leacock Memorial Award for Humour in 1972.

Braithwaite's style is colloquial and at once serious and humorous. A number of his stories are autobiographical, vividly recalling his experiences on the Prairies during the Dirty Thirties. He introduces each selection, explaining how he came to write it, and commenting, where applicable, on its publishing history. He also reveals his thoughts on writing. The anthology includes an introduction and an epilogue by the author.

This book is recommended as enjoyable reading and as a welcome addition to collections of works by notable Canadian writers.
