Volume 12 Number 3 1984 May My dreams are gone! The people of a small village lose their dreams before they even get a chance to complete them. This is because a thin dream stealer, perched high above the sleeping village, stealthily secrets them all away. Finally, when no one has any more dreams left and his vaults are full, he opens a Tower Supermarket featuring a special sale on dreams. Thus, he expects to make his fortune. No dreams. . .who cares? Despite the initial cleverness, the plot simply does not convey a depth of sincerity or awaken an impression of believability. The illustrations, far from enhancing or extending the tale, strangely confuse the reader. The surreal grotesqueness of the dream stealer's elongated face and terrible smile seem too stark and overdone for the author's sleepy style. There also appears to be no logic to either the placement of the illustrations in the text or to the alternating black-and-white with colour segments.
