CANADIAN DO-IT-YOURSELF: THE MAGAZINE FOR HANDY PEOPLE
no. 1--, 1980--. Scarborough (ON), Centre Publications, 10 issues a year.
Volume 12 Number 5
Aimed at homeowners, hobbyists, and do-it-yourselfers, this magazine provides the home crafts person with information, projects, and news of products suitable for the Canadian environment. All aspects of home care and repair, from plumbing and electrical installation to building cabinets and decorating, are covered. Woodworking projects are a regular feature and include detailed plans (in Imperial measurements). Another worthwhile series of articles considers various hand and power tools and their use. Four seasonal supplements under the title "Canadian Gardening" contain articles on lawn care, houseplants, ordering seeds, and other items relevant to outdoor and indoor gardening. The magazine is well illustrated with colour and black-and-white photographs. Advertising, which averages twenty-eight per cent of the content, is all related to home care and repair. Issue 20 contained an index for 1980 to the end of 1983. Excellent value as a general industrial arts magazine. C. Naslund, Vancouver, BC. |
