Volume 12 Number 5 1984 September Hans Nütt was the son of a German Social Democrat who committed suicide shortly after Hitler came to power in Germany. Nütt was therefore a member of that minority of Germans who did not support the Nazis. Escape to Honour is the true story of Hans Nütt's fantastic experiences during World War II. Trained as a merchant seaman, Nütt was inducted into the German navy. Imprisoned for helping some friends desert, Nütt escaped from a military concentration camp and walked to France, where he joined the Resistance and played an active role in the Underground before being recruited to serve as a spy for British Intelligence. The story of Hans Nütt, who now lives in Edmonton, is absorbing and exciting and would be a good purchase for any public library. In addition, senior secondary history students would find this personal account to be a good choice for supplementary reading.
