Canadian Jenifer, on a month's holiday at her mother's ancestral home in Cornwall, discovers that standing in the shadow of a nearby megalith will transport her back in time. On one of her journeys into the past she makes the acquaintance of one of her ancestors Perran, a young boy who persuades her to take him with her forward into her time. Their attempt to do so misfires, and they find themselves instead in prehistoric time, captured by a group of Druids who practise human sacrifice.

The author's somewhat choppy, obvious style at the beginning of the book gives way to a smoother flow of words and ideas as the story progresses; the reader should gain some incidental information about life in prehistoric times. Upper elementary readers, and possibly reluctant junior high readers as well, will enjoy this adventure. With luck it may motivate them to seek higher-level time-travel fantasy, such as that of L'Engle.
