WHEN YOU WERE LITTLE AND I WAS BIG
Priscilla Galloway. Illustrated by Heather Collins.

Volume 12 Number 5
"When you were little and I was big, I was a good mummy just like you". This closing line of Patricia Galloway's book sums up the essence of this delightful book for young children. Seen through the eyes of a child, the various everyday activities of a mother-daughter relationship are portrayed. As the child tackles each problem, her reactions and actions are that of her mother. The tears of joy and of sadness are reflected equally. The clear readable print is offset with two-fold illustrations. We see mother and child in small size pictures juxtaposed with full-page full-colour illustrations detailing mother as the child with the child filling the role of the mother. These illustrations, done by Heather Collins, provide both humour and a touch of sadness at the reality of life.Jean A. Mabee, Dieppe E.S., Winnipeg, MB. |
