Taylor continues his study of British Columbia and, this time, as his title suggests, he follows the impact of the automobile on British Columbia from 1890 to the 1920s. Other works by this author are Builders of British Columbia: An Industrial History (Sono Nis, 1982) Mining: The History of Mining in British Columbia (Hancock, 1978), and Timber: History of the Forest Industry in B.C.* Taylor reinforces his text with black-and-white archival photographs (some from his own collection), and quotes his sources from the British Columbia Provincial Archives, UBC Library Special Collections, local newspapers, and historical papers. The author obviously takes delight in researching his subject in a professional manner and provides his readers with yet another well-organised description of a facet of the historical development of British Columbia. Of interest to car buffs and historians, this book is recommended for purchase, primarily by public libraries, but also by secondary school libraries, where funds allow.
