On their walk, they pass a park with swings and slide, so they stop to swing, a hopscotch board, so they stop to skip, an ice cream man, who sells them ice cream, a black dog they pat, a flower vendor, so they buy flowers. When Sarah asks Pop to go one more block, "Pop stopped and thought." Illustrated by Shirley Day, the simple coloured drawings depict Sarah and Pop's outing with a continuously flowing sidewalk carried from page to page offset with clear readable print. The repetition in the story makes it fun and easy for a child to pick up the momentum. The story ends abruptly, as the action stops suddenly, and it leaves the audience in suspense: what will happen next? Will they "walk one more block"?
