The cover of this book claims it is "the young fan's indispensable guide to the 1984-85 season," I do not know about the "indispensable" part, but it is designed for young fans, and many parts of it have value beyond the 1984-85 season. The book is a mixed bag of hockey information. Each NHL team is given brief coverage with regard to its prospects for the 1984-85 season, sections that, of course, are now only passing interest. Significant parts of the book are devoted to general hockey information such as historical and biographical sketches, playing tips, and hockey rules. These are the parts that are of lasting interest and value. There are plenty of action photographs, and in general the book is quite attractive. It will be of interest to hockey fans and players in the indicated age group. Unfortunately, material like this quickly becomes dated. I would recommend purchase of a 1985-86 version if it is published. It should be a popular item in elementary and junior high school libraries.
