Early in the story Alison is given a pipe bowl which once belonged to the Micmac Indians. She is disturbed by an experience in time transportation where she faces the Shaman who is restlessly roaming the earth in search of the pipe's bowl and stem. Through a series of exciting adventures between present and past, Alison helps to resolve the mystery of the missing pipe stem and leads the Shaman ghost to final peace. This novel is well-written with behaviour appropriate to the characters. Its large, well-spaced print increase its readability. The detailed pen sketches by Paul McCusker add a further dimension to the story. I enjoyed this adventurous summertime tale and recommend it for young readers.
