A must for every school and public library, Early Settler Activity Guide will provide an invaluable aid for teachers studying early life in Canada with their elementary students. The author organizes each of the twelve chapters topically as a centre of interest. Each chapter begins with objectives for that chapter, a brief listing of contents, references to the appropriate Early Settler Life books, and notes to the teacher. Although many of the activities (which are presented in somewhat random order within each chapter) are based on information contained in the Early Settler Life series, the guide can be used independently. The many suggested activities, models, games, discussions, map work, field trips, classroom visitors, artwork, and crafts, can easily be accomodated to a variety of classroom and resource centre situations. The innovative teacher can incorporate the activities into many areas of the curriculum, environmental studies, language arts, even mathematics, thus providing a high quality learning experience in which students have something to do, see, hear, touch, and react to.
