Wesley Volume 13 Number 5 1985 September An overview of the Micmac people from prehistoric limes to the present is presented here in a concise and attractive format. The impact of European explorers and settlers on the traditional Micmac community is documented, as is the devastation to the Micmac way of life that resulted from the English and French conflict in the Maritimes at the end of the eighteenth century. No less devastating were the policies of the department of indian affairs during the twentieth century. Each chapter is augmented with ideas for additional study and writing as well as in-depth sections on such subjects as how to make a birch bark canoe. Illustrations are photographs and line drawings. Leavitt has done an excellent job of illustrating the impact our history has had on one particular social group.
