Soviet Journey is a diary of a four week visit to various parts of the U.S.S.R.: Moscow, Leningrad, the Ukraine, the desert area of Turkmenia, and Siberia. Each chapter is packed with information, photographs, and line drawings. The narrative is broken several times in each chapter with "did you know" sections and suggestions for activities. The authors discuss the history of the U.S.S.R. and the way of life of the people in the areas visited. There is also in-depth information on such things as mining, wheat farming, and desert irrigation. Students searching for current information will find Soviet Journey useful, as will teachers of the social sciences. Recommended for junior and intermediate collections.
