The present index, consolidated and expanded from a 1981 index and supplements, covers Jones's articles in the Saturday editions of the newspaper from October 1973 to December 1984. The index is in two parts; a name/subject listing and a listing by street name and number (for buildings). It is thus possible to locate, (by date and page), information on individual buildings, references to people and events, and to specific areas. The name/subject listing also includes the article's headings. Both sections indicate illustrations by means of asterisks. Specific subject headings have been used in preference to general headings, (eg., "Wyle, Florence" and "Loring, Frances" but not "Sculptors"), but some general headings are included ("Postal Service," "Prohibition"). Essential cross-references are given for both proper names and subjects. Libraries may wish to replace the spiral binding and paper cover with more durable materials.
