Chinese culture is taught in terms of the students' environment, rather than as something that happens only in a far-away country. The book is divided into three main sections. A table of Contents and a "Related Resources" section are included. The premise of China Round the Corner is thai students learn through exposure to concrete objects. What can you learn from a duck egg, eel maw, bamboo leaf, herbalist shop, and a joss stick? The first section gives some interesting information. Heather Harris says, ". . . teach climate, geography and topography through a duck egg and lichee nuts"; but the ideas on how to present this material are sketchy. The second section briefly discusses two field trip possibilities; Pender Street in Vancouver and Dundas Street in Toronto. There are simple diagrams of each street, with possible stops marked. This section will be of most use to a teacher in either of these cities. The final section has some interesting suggestions for a written assignment and displays. The author suggests that students show off their knowledge by taking their peers on a tour of the exhibits they have produced.
