Dental Health: A Teacher's Guide is an excellent resource book for the teaching of dental hygiene from kindergarten to grade 12. The main objective of this book is "to promote a healthier lifestyle, particularly as it relates to dental health." The book is divided into seven parts. Sections A-D are the teaching sections, divided into grade levels. For example, section A contains objectives, content materials, and suggested learning activities for kindergarten to grade 3. Section E contains the appendices, which include a glossary, the Canada Food Guide, and articles, of which "Sugar Content in Food" and "Fluorides in Drinking Water and Food in Canada" are just two examples. Section F is the resource section, in which are listed books, films, and teaching aids, as well as pamphlets and other materials from the departments of national health and welfare of each of the different provinces in Canada. Section G contains many different illustrations that can be duplicated or transferred onto overhead transparencies. Some of the illustrations are more helpful and more appropriate than others, but on the whole, they are pretty comprehensive. Ever had to search all over for a good, large, and simple illustration of a tooth? Well, search no more. Included are illustrations of a tooth, how to floss, upper and lower sets of teeth, and many more. This book is also a boon to teachers in that each section and unit includes ample objectives. The text is easy to read and easy to understand without being too technical. Dental Health is well worth purchasing and should prove useful to anyone who needs to teach dental hygiene.
