This re-issue of the original 1967 publication by Alfred Knopf is a welcome replacement for lost or worn copies of an outstanding account of wildlife in the Rockies. Russell shows us the life and ways of an animal much misunderstood and feared by humans, largely due to published accounts of unusual encounters.

From this volume we can put into perspective the bear's habits, his antics, his food, his life cycle, against vivid descriptions of his normal habitat and range. Largely due to the impact of the original and of other naturalists' strong pleas for man's restraint in his predatory activities against wild creatures, this present release may have less effect nowadays. Among natural history buffs, Andy Russell is a must.

This is a good read that brings the grizzly and his habitat to life and recreates a way of life still seriously threatened by two-legged predators.
