English as a second language books rarely focus on the Canadian scene or on our vocabulary. This book is a remedy to this situation. The authors indicate that it has been designed for intermediate students who need more conversational skills and it is this need that is met throughout the book. Each chapter includes a dialogue and discussion questions. In addition to this, there are language notes and a culture note that is specifically Canadian. One of the strengths of the book is the variety of the subjects included, all of which a new Canadian would be able to relate to. Some of these topics include the job interview, the fitness craze, house hunting, and continuing education. The price of this book makes it particularly desirable for students who often cannot find reasonable materials to take home, which necessitates a great deal of copying by the ESL instructor. This would be valuable for the evening class instructor as well as instructors in day programs. It is a welcome addition to the ESL booklist.
