The three novelettes in this series bring into handy print form the characters of Degrassi Street who were made famous in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom via their prize-winning television series. Rachel's campaign for election, Griff's search for a real friend, and Jeffrey's struggle to live up to his father's expectations all reflect real problems of a grade 5 student in Toronto, or in any other urban school community.

The themes arc universal, the interactions between the children are natural, and their achievement of solutions is credible and heart-warming. Each Degrassi Street story in the book is based on an episode from the film series (twenty-six episodes to date). Each lends itself to discussion of characters and relationships that grow and change in terms children will recognize and appreciate.

Information about the films may be obtained from the production company. Playing With Time Inc., 935 Queen East, Toronto, Ontario, M4M 1J6. Linda Schuyler, a former public school teacher, and Kit Hood, a writer and former child actress, began their film production in 1976. The combination of film and story, or the study of the story alone in print form, provides suitable elementary level literary materials for discussion and enjoyment. A welcome addition to the growing stock of novels and novelettes for this age group. Highly recommended for elementary collections.
