A slight, superficial story of the attempts of two girls,* Fish and Chops, to have Bill, a new student from Macedonia (not Greece) take one of them to the grade eight graduation dance. The underlying story, and a much more interesting one, is of Chop's growing friendship with Bill's mother, who, because she speaks no English, finds difficulty being assimilated into the neighbourhood. The book has large clear print and adequate drawings. Students will find little interest in this first-person novel and will be bored with the plot's predictability. Not recommended.
