When eleven-year-old Terry found a baby starling, he knew he had to look after it. He could not let anyone know about it though, because his stepfather had told him that he hated starlings. This book is about Terry's struggle to adjust to his stepfather, to his friendship with Kevin, and his relationship with his crabby neighbour. It is well illustrated with full-page-size drawings that should appeal to young readers. The fine print might put some reluctant readers off, but the story and the vocabulary should not prove a hindrance once they do start. I would put this book in a school library and I think the students would enjoy it.
