Two little girls make a mansion under the dining-room table with quilts and cloths and then move in with their dolls and furniture. While they are eating a snack, some of the neighbours stroll by-a wolf looking for pigs, a girl looking for sheep, a boy with a cow to sell. Suddenly everyone comes running back, reporting that there is a giant approaching. They all hide in the house and then the giant (Jenny's dad) appears to say that Sarah has to go now. Later on, Jenny finds four beans.

Kathryn E. Shoemaker has illustrated this picture book with soft-toned pencil crayon pictures, with a predominance of blues and purples. Wouldn't it be nice if there were more information about the illustrations in all books of this sort? 1 am interested and love to discuss illustration with the students, pointing to the artists' implements and tools on the new Caldecott poster.

My sisters and I were "house-makers"—under tables, on beds, in piles of leaves. Perhaps that's why I can appreciate the fantasy and imaginative play of the two little preschoolers Jenny and Sarah. There is a nice blending of story and illustration, with the pictures extending and enlarging on what the words say.

A gentle amusing story with illustrations to match-look for pigs peeking and leaping. A good bed-time choice or the perfect story to go with a fairytale unit. Kathryn E. Shoemaker, I love your pigs!
