HIDDEN GOLD MYSTERY
Marion Crook.
Volume 15 Number 5
Children will like this mystery. It is easy to read, flows well, has good characters and excitement. The story is set in British Columbia's Cariboo country near Williams Lake. Megan and Ricky are friends, and they are nice, responsible children. They train animals for the 4H Show, and Megan cares about the trees that are logged. Parents of both kids work and are absent a lot of the time. During summer vacation the children, for fun, decide to investigate the mysteriousness of an old fellow who mines for gold nearby. Soon, their summer game escalates into real danger, which includes murder, gold, drugs and guns, plus a bear scare. These children do take dangerous risks and the parents, although concerned, are easily circumvented, but this book does not profess to be a guide, just an entertaining mystery; and it is.Gerri Young, Fort Nelson, BC. |
