Volume 15 Number 5
For those involved in teaching or promoting women's studies and feminist issues, here is a practical, clearly organized primer on the use of film. Authors are on staff at Development Education Centre Films, a distributor of "social issue films and videos." Images starts with definitions of media formats and suggestions on designing programs. Individual chapters explore in greater detail "small-group screenings," "public showings," and "feminist filmmaking." The handbook closes with a chronology ("women in film history"), lists (primarily Canadian) of distributors, producers, and other sources for women's film and video, cineographies and "selected bibliography," This brief handbook is attractive and clear in layout and in writing style. The paper edition submitted for review was sturdy and opened flat. Even those who are not exclusively concerned with "women's films" may find this Canadian guide a handy reference for ideas new or overlooked.
