Precision Reading is a workbook of sixty blackline masters that are designed to "develop thinking strategies, language skills and dictionary competency." They consist of exercises grouped under the following titles: 1) Following a precise instructional sequence; 2) Syntax reorganization; 3) Precise interpretation; 4) Identifying differences in a category; 5) Reading beneath the lines; 6) Same or different; 7) Following directions precisely; 8) Establishing meaning through context; 9) Determining precise relationships; 10) Evaluating the accuracy of generalizations.

Each type of exercise contains several single page lessons that reinforce the concept being learned, introduced with exactly the same instructions each time. The section on following directions precisely may be very difficult for some students to complete independently. Group instruction and/or individual assistance may be necessary. The codes and "tricks" will appeal to students. Dictionary use is encouraged throughout the exercises, but dictionary skills are not taught.

The sets of exercises may be useful in teaching students to read carefully and correctly and supported by direct teaching may help them to interpret written information. Ten lessons of the same type will not be needed by most students.
