This package of activities for young students to carry out independently has definite merit for introducing or reinforcing knowledge about North American resource industries. The authors, however, should have added more variety to the instructions, which have a boring sameness to them that may have an effect on the students' enthusiasm for the project. As well, care must be taken to differentiate between customs of the pioneer days and modern times. In the section on farming, there should be further explanation to reinforce the fact that the chores assigned to women and girls, men and boys, were for pioneer days and may certainly be different now. However, in the section on machinery, the student has an opportunity to compare the pioneer tools with modern equipment. The activity package is a worthwhile addition to the students' social studies curriculum for enrichment learning.
