On Your Mark, Get Set is a book that sets out to tell us "All about the Olympics: then and now," and in a minor way, it does just that. There are interesting little articles on such topics as "The Origins of the Olympics," "Olympic Tragedies," "Unusual Olympics," and "Olympic Villages." As welt, the text outlines all of the events in both the winter and summer games, highlighting such things as history, major winners, what to watch for, equipment, and the unique challenge each event presents. By and large, the summaries are both informative and accurate, although most volleyball coaches and referees would probably take exception to the definition of a "block" as "all the players on one team put up their hands to stop a ball from coming over the net." Of course, this misinformation is not uncommon when one attempts a simple summary of a complex activity. The table of contents makes it easy to find all the information. The print is large and clear, and the black-and-white illustrations are both informative and attractive.
