This recording is the third in a series of highly praised albums by the "Lullaby Lady," Pat Carfra. Both traditional and contemporary selections make up a collection of activity songs and lullabies. A helpful word sheet provides background information on each song and suggestions for parents and teachers.

Arrangements for the ten "Wide Awake" songs on side A are original and appealing. A very effective version of 'The Bear Hunt." for example, has children echoing each line with sound effects in the background. Pat Carfra's warm and enthusiastic voice is complemented by a group of young children who form the "Kids' Chorus." Musical accompaniment is simple, with instruments ranging from the tuba for "When Cows Get up in the Morning" to the flute for "Birdies Ball". Children will welcome the opportunity to "add a verse" at the end of several of the activity songs.

The twelve lullabies on side B ("Dozing Off") range from the traditional English "Oranges and Lemons" to "I'm not Tired." a song sent to Carfra by a firefighter from Ajax, Ontario. A simple keyboard accompaniment is provided for most of the lullabies and contributes to a very soothing, tranquil mood. Longer instrumental passages and repetition of verses will help to lull the most active child to sleep.

This recording will enhance any collection designed to meet the needs of young children, their parents and teachers.
