The author has written three books about railways, mining, and forest fires in northeastern Ontario. All are set in the early decades of this century and all are widely illustrated with appropriate photographs. Killer in the Bush details the great fires (often started inadvertently by farmers clearing large tracts of land) of the Kirkland Lake/ Temiskaming area in the 1920s. Hundreds of square miles of forest were lost; damage was in the millions of dollars; there was large loss of life. I recommend this book because it is interesting and it is easy to read and follow. Its utility, however, as curriculum support will have to be determined by each individual librarian.
