Another title in the "Mind Benders" series, this one combines picture and word clues. Depending on keen observation, this book draws the child into looking very closely at details -- which most children love to do. For example, one large picture contains twenty objects that don't belong. The children have fun identifying these. Another double-page spread has thirty pictures, which the reader must match up in pairs to make a larger word such as sun/flower, butter/fly and thumb/nail. Matching shapes, adding missing parts of a picture, following a maze, looking for hidden objects, and weeding out things that don't belong all add to the fun. Once again, an amazing variety of tasks is packed into these pages. Much less dependent on word recognition, this book fits well into the thinking skills category. It depends more on sharp observation and the recognition of incongruities, so it should be useful for children who are having reading difficulties but perform tasks that are not word-dependent well.
