Volume 16 Number 5 1988 September A delightful story about two-year-old Jesse, Foo will give enjoyment to any young child. Because it is such a heart-warming and charming tale, adults will love it, too, and will put up with reading it over and over again at the insistence of the young one. When Jesse was two she learned about blowing kisses. She would kiss with her hand, and while the kiss was warm and light, she would blow as hard as she could, "FOO". She foo-ed kisses to all her friends, to her Auntie Aleta and to the lady at the popsicle store. She foo-ed kisses to puppies and kittens and Ben's pet worms. Everybody liked her foo kisses. How the whole process helps Jesse when she can't sleep, because her Mommy is out, and how the results make Mommy feel when she returns, make a story worth sharing with any child up to six or seven years of age. In contrast to so many children's books today that deal with single parents, family break-ups, learning difficulties and violence in the environment, this picture of family cohesiveness in a modern setting is refreshing and somehow reassuring. Illustrations by Eugenie Fernandes show a delightful two-year-old sharing her love.
