"Adjusting the Image" is the title/ theme of a national conference concerning women and Canadian broadcasting held in 1987. The writers, Samantha Sanderson and Rose Potvin, have produced a thorough and lucid documentation of the proceedings. The introductory pages lead the reader through the preliminaries of the conference, background and chronology. Marginal notes throughout the book reinforce pertinent facts. The book contains summaries of all the presenters from the media, various task forces, MediaWatch and others. Summarized excerpts from the keynote address by the Hon. Flora Macdonald and the remarks by the luncheon speaker representing industry, James F. Sward, chairperson of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters, are also included. This noteworthy conference opened the way for women to assess the performance of government, CRTC, and public and private broadcasters on the equality and dignity afforded women in broadcasting to bring an end to sex-role stereotyping. The book ensures that there will be a record of this conference in its entirety as a constant reminder of the importance of the issues.
