Henry Gordon is a magician-mentalist, a fellow of the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal, and chairperson of the Ontario Skeptics Society. His targets include such topics as extrasensory perception, voodoo, fire-walking, UFO sightings, and faith healing and superstition. Gordon provides rational, scientific explanations of supposed supernatural occurrences. Extrasensory Deception is a collection of essays based on the author's weekly columns in the Toronto Star. The language is very easy to understand and the format makes it convenient for reading on the bus, between classes or on coffee break. If it had been organized and edited differently, this book could have been a good reference tool for students researching the scientific side of the psychic phenomena debate. However, the lack of an index and bibliography makes the information difficult to find, and Gordon refers to various organizations and publications without providing addresses. There is also a certain amount of repetition in the essays. Aside from these minor flaws, Extrasensory Deception will be useful to balance the myriad writings on the occult sciences, since there are not many books available that cover this particular perspective.
