speak the ordinary

and move apart Using a variety of lyric and narrative forms, Summerhayes transports the reader across our country, remembering simple yet important experiences that have had meaning for him and may touch a responsive chord in us. He remembers Miss Arthur who taught both him and his mother, the pathos of the returned soldiers, his boyhood at the quarry pond, the graveyards, a coffee stop in a dying western town, driving across Saskatchewan. These imagist poems are sensitive and quite beautiful; the narratives establish an intimacy with the reader through recognized experiences expressed with deceptive simplicity.
