Natural Resources provides an excellent overview of the earth's natural resources—food, animals, forests, water, wind, coal, oil. stone and gold—in simple terms for Primary and Junior students, Kalman stresses the importance of protecting our resources and ways in which people can prevent waste and pollution. Each two-page spread features a detailed and colourful one-and-a-half-page picture, a half-page discussion of one resource, and a "picture talk" section at the bottom consisting of questions based on the illustration and designed to stimulate discussion and writing. The "Let's Explore" page and picture explain the importance and techniques of solar energy collection. Two pages of related activities, such as graphing, making a pin-wheel and starting a recycling club, follow. The attractive cover illustration, excellent organization, easy-to-read type, and clear, simple language will make this non-fiction book an appealing one for both younger and older students and teachers.
